In Spring 2017 I had the pleasure to represent Ball State University's Department of Theatre & Dance at both Region III KCACTF and SETC for my Scenic Design of The Great God Pan. After being named our region's winner (KCACTF) in the area of Scenic Design, I had the honor to take my design to compete at the National KCACTF in Washington D.C. While in D.C., I was able to participate in a week-long master class with Debra Booth and my work was adjudicated by Ralph Funicello. At the conclusion of the week-long residency at the National KCACTF, I was awarded the National Award for Design Excellence in Scenic Design. At SETC, my work had the opportunity to be adjudicated by Beowulf Boritt and was awarded third place in the area of Undergraduate Scenic Design. While at all three conferences, I will never forget the incredible opportunity to bond with fellow artists and the conversations about the awe-inspiring power of theatrical storytelling with professionals, friends, and mentors.
"After an amazing 2017 Convention in Lexington, KY, we look back on the highlights, celebrate our award winners, and look forward to upcoming events in this issue of SETC News."
"Auburn native Gavin Mosier, a senior theatrical design and technology student in the Department of Theatre and Dance at Ball State University, traveled to Washington, D.C., recently to compete at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Mosier was named the national winner of the scenic design competition."
